Gent Jazz Festival is bringing none other than Björk to Belgium on Wednesday 11 July 2018! It has been six years since the Icelandic star played in our country for what will be her only Benelux concert of the year. The historical Sint-Pietersplein in Ghent, where musical legends like Prince, Leonard Cohen, Ennio Morricone and Massive Attack stood on stage, will form the fairy-tale backdrop of a unique performance full of charged shh shhs and explosive zing booms. Ticket sales start on Friday 9 March at 11:00 on www.bjork.gent.
From her early days with The Sugarcubes over the world famous ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’ to her latest album ‘Utopia’, Björk has been challenging herself and the music scene for four decades already. She flirts with electronica, classical music, trip hop and avant-garde. Moreover, Björk is not only skilled musically. Her acting performance in Lars Von Trier’s masterpiece ‘Dancer in the Dark’ earned her the Golden Palm and the award for best actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000.
On 11 July 2018 on the impressive Sint-Pietersplein in Ghent, the multitalented Icelandic singer promises to enchant her audience with both her world hits and songs from her ninth studio album ‘Utopia’. As the title suggests, the latest one is more about embracing the positive than her previous album ‘Vulnicura’, where she wept her post-divorce broken heart. Rolling Stone gave the new album a dazzling four stars and called it a “musical multiple orgasm”. In these dark, dystopian times, Björk’s ode to love and life is a breath of fresh air for the soul.
This unique event is made possible thanks to the support of Stad Gent.
